The Hummer

He stands sentinel in the bare branches

Of the ancient oak by the back door.

Landing at intervals displaying

Splashes of cochineal and emerald,

He sips surreptitiously

The syrup provided, then lifts off

As though his third stage kicks

In fueling his flight

To destination unknown.

This is beautiful April.  Your word choices are such that one can see the beauty and motion of this little bird even without the picture.  They are truly exceptional little birds as is this poem.  God Bless, Debbie

Author's Response: I just love the hummers.   Thanks for the read. ab
