Winter vs Spring

Winter vs. Spring

We are long past the first day of Spring,

But I’ve yet to hear a Robin sing !!

On the freeway, the motorcycles want to hum,

But ice and snow keeps spoiling their fun !!

The Tulips have started to sprout,

But Winter has caused them to fold in and pout !!

New Romance wants to show its glow,

But Winter keeps stealing the show !!

Winter, when will you stop fighting with Spring ??

Don’t you know the Robins want to come out and sing ??

The children long to play in the park,
But with coats and mittens it loses its spark !!

It is not that we don’t love the new fallen snow,

But by Spring it is dirty and has lost its glow !!

So Winter please stop fighting with Spring,

And let in our hearts a new song sing.

This I submitted a year ago, but I revisited it because,
although we have had two day of beautiful weather - it has
fore casted snow. I feel like Winter and
Spring are playing cat and mouse !

Well written. I lve the word painting, symbollism and the back and forth descriptions of both Winter and Spring that is accurate and substantial. Loved your ending and the comment at the end is so true, just like playing cat and mouse.

Author's Response: Thanks, Cath - your comments are much appreciated.  Frosty L.

Isn't spring amazing?  I love it!  I am so glad to see the nasty hag go bye bye!  Great work of art, representing the great season, too!  Sheri

Author's Response: Thanks Sheri, at this time of the year, Winter does look like a Hag.
Although it remains cold here, and the ice and snow is gone,
it is beautiful and sunny out today. There is hope !

A delightful poem which makes us eager for spring.  Actually I bought some plants and seeds today.  You have motivated me to dig out a couple of my own poems on the subject. --stan

Author's Response: Thanks, Stan, glad you enjoyed - Hope Spring and Winter will soon end their fight.

Though we here in our area have had an exceptionally warm March so far, it still may be a bit too early to believe our weather has completely warmed up and that the warm days are here forever.  Your fine and very well expressed poem make that quite clear, Frosty Lady.  It's still too soon to don shorts and tee shirts to welcome the carfree days of summer!  Carl.

Author's Response: Thanks for your nice comments, Carl - I do hope we soon have warmer weather soon.

A real natural dimensional contrast of changes within phases of creation.
I admire the melodious rhyme scheme. The  sharp contrast in each couplet is most picturesque. Great creative achievement. Due to its real time contrast of seasonal descriptions and rotating a reader's real time emotions within each couplet I have to rate this unparalleled. martin

Author's Response: Thanks Martin, for you nice comments. We have had so much snow that has turned ugly,
that I am  hoping we do not have any more ! I am very much ready for the ambiance of Spring.

Ah, nothing worse than getting that first taste of spring, then getting more snow...I used to hate that!  We didn't get any snow here in Florida, but the temps are still cold and I am ready for the warmer weather.  We did see a cardinal this morning - beautiful....loved the rhythm and flow of your words.  Dulcinea

Author's Response: Thanks Dulcinea, We have a pond in the back of our Condo and some of the geese are
back - but they look bewildered. Thanks for looking at this and your nice remarks.
